This Lighted Mirror Is The Key To Flawless Makeup
This post was sponsored by JOI and was gifted to me for review purposes. All thoughts are honest and my own.
New York City has its perks. I live blocks away from fantastic museums, restaurants, and bars - and I can get pretty much anything delivered to my apartment at any time of the day! But despite all the conveniences of living in New York, I’ve come to accept that I have terrible lighting in my apartment.
Why is lighting so important?
When you do your makeup indoors (as most of us do) you’re not able to see your true complexion, and makeup colors can look a lot different indoors than they do outside. Because of this, when you do your makeup inside you’re more likely to run into makeup mistakes like not properly blending your foundation or ending up with an overly-harsh look. Indoor lighting masks these mistakes, but they become much more visible once you leave your home.
Just the other day, my boyfriend asked why my cheeks looked so pink. I pulled out a mirror and realized I’d gone way overboard on the blush! Serious facepalm moment. My makeup looked fine when I did it in my bedroom that morning, but in daylight, it was definitely not fine. And, unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time indoor lighting had caused a makeup mishap for me. There have been times that I’ve gone an entire day without realizing my eyeshadow was way too dark or my foundation was patchy. Worst of all – no one even told me!
So, when JOI (Just Own It) sent me their Spotlite HD Makeup Perfecting “True” Daylight Ultra-Bright LED Mirror to try, I was definitely curious. It may be a mouthful to say, but it packs a punch light-wise!
Unlike a lot of makeup mirrors which are only meant to give you additional lighting, the
So what did I think of the Spotlite HD Diamond 2.0?
The first time I opened it up, I was impressed by how versatile it is. The mirror opens up like a laptop so that you can use it on your vanity, but you also have the option of mounting it on a wall or converting it to handheld mode.
I use it most often in vanity mode because I love using the convenient makeup tray to keep my go-to products within reach. The tray also doubles as storage when the mirror is closed.
But I also like that it’s moisture-proof so it’s perfect for mounting in my bathroom. I currently have mine mounted to the back wall of my bathroom which means I don’t have to awkwardly sit on the edge of my sink while I do my makeup anymore. And, don’t worry– it’s easily mountable and removable via command strips so your walls will remain in perfect condition.
I’ve been using the
The mirror charges via a USB cord and has excellent battery life. And in order to save battery, it turns off when you close it and turns back on when you open it.
It took me a while to get used to just how bright the lights are at their maximum setting, but you’re able to dim the lights via the touch-sensitive switch if you need to.
I love that JOI is on a mission to eliminate makeup mistakes with their Spotlite HD Diamond 2.0, but I also really appreciate the thought they put into the compact design. It easily fits into my lifestyle by taking up minimal room on my vanity and in my suitcase. The only thing missing is a phone holder attachment because it would also make a great selfie light - but maybe I’m getting too ahead of myself!
