Levitate Spotlight: Billie Razors Are Taking On The Pink Tax And Celebrating Women's Body Hair
Levitate Spotlight is my new monthly blog series where I highlight brands I support for reasons that go beyond their amazing products. If you’ve read my about page, you’ll know that Levitate Beauty was given its name because I think it’s important to support and lift up others (and ourselves). So my goal is to highlight brands and founders that do the same through their amazing ethos and marketing messages. First up: Billie.
Happy March, everyone! It’s almost spring which means soon it’ll be warm enough to show my legs, which also means I’ll start shaving more regularly now.
I'll come right out and say it: I'm a hairy person. Not to be dramatic, but some days I feel like my body hair grows at twice the rate of the average human. And maybe that's not true, but my hair does grow quickly and it’s brown and thick so it’s hard to miss! Therefore, as someone that prefers to shave my body hair, a good razor is a must in my personal body care routine.
When Billie asked if I’d like to try their razor and body wash I was ecstatic. Billie is a "female-focused body brand" and their razor subscription has been on my radar for a long while - mostly due to their amazing subway ads. My friend and I are nerds and we'll text each other constantly to discuss new ads we saw; and I can safely say that Billie is a QUEEN when it comes to marketing. They’re often a topic of conversation for us.
Billie Celebrates Women's Body Hair
What really makes Billie’s marketing stand out to me is the fact that a lot of their messaging celebrates women’s body hair. Billie mentioned to me that they’re the first women’s razor brand to show body hair in their ads. Think about how wild it is that women’s body hair is so stigmatized that it’s left out of razor ads of all places (insert huge eye roll at society here and, if I’m being honest, an eye roll at myself because I’d never even noticed this before).

But Billie’s celebration of women’s body hair is so clearly deeply ingrained into the DNA of their company, their marketing messages, and their Project Body Hair initiative. Billie makes it clear that body hair on women is normal and that whether or not we shave is our personal choice. If you choose to shave, that’s awesome - Billie’s got you covered with razors. And if you prefer not to shave, they offer other products that might peak your interest like body washes and lotions.
On to the Product… Does Billie Make Good Razors?
I tend to gravitate toward men's razors because they're cheaper and give me a closer shave than most women's razors I've used. But here’s yet another thing I love about this brand: Billie has set out to address both of these issues. Their prices are right in line with other men's razor subscriptions (bye, pink tax!). Billie's starter kit is $9 and includes:
- A Billie razor handle
- 5 razor cartridges
- And a magnetic razor holder (more on this later!)
After the initial starter kit, you can order 4 replacement cartridges for $9 at a frequency of your choosing (compare this to other brands like Gillette Venus, where a 4-pack of blade refills is $20).
So, Here's The Big Test…How Does Billie’s Razor Compare To My Current Razor?
I’ve been happily using the Schick Hydro 5 Men’s Razor for a couple of years now. And after testing out my new Billie razor there’s no denying that it gives me an equally smooth, close shave. But it goes above and beyond my current razor because the blades are encased in aloe soap, which allows the razor to glide more smoothly over my legs and make my skin feel softer when I'm done shaving.
And I can’t end this review without mentioning their magnetic wall holder. It feels so fancy and I love it! I’ve never had a razor hook that’s 1: Magnetic and 2: Hasn’t fallen off my wall immediately. The magnetic holder might seem like a small thing, but thoughtful details like that make all the difference for me!
How About Billie’s Sudsy Body Wash?
Billie also sent me their Sudsy Body Wash, which is cruelty-free, sulfate-free, and paraben free. I never buy shaving cream because I can't justify how much it costs so, instead, I'll slather conditioner on my legs and call it a day. But finding out that this body wash doubles as a shave cream means it completely falls in line with my lifestyle. Plus it’s a product that I can continue to use in the winter when I only shave my legs occasionally (Shout out to BF Levitate who once thought the cat jumped into the bed but then realized it was just my legs brushing his. Whoops.). The body wash also smells like grapefruit and leaves my body feeling hydrated and soft, so it’s a keeper for sure!
All in all, Billie’s razors and body wash are just as great as their marketing and they're a brand I’ll continue to stand behind. Their Dry-Bye Body Lotion is calling my name next!
Billie's razor and body wash were gifted to me to test with no obligation to review. As always, all thoughts and opinions about these products are totally mine!
Talk to me in the comments! Are there any brands whose messaging or founders have really stood out to you lately? Let me know what I should check out next!
